Last Updated On: May 9, 2025
Effective On: May 9, 2025
In order to fully protect your rights, we have updated the Weixin Privacy Protection Guidelines (hereinafter referred to as "this Policy"), with the new version containing the following updates:
1. In Section 1 "Information We Collect and Use", we have provided more detailed disclosures on the personalized recommendation mechanisms for Official Accounts, Service Accounts, Mini Programs, and other features. We've also illustrated the mechanisms and toggle options for personalized recommendations for features such as "Listen", "Ask", and Weixin Stickers. Additionally, we've further clarified the collection and use of personal information in scenarios such as Weixin Account and Channels Account security, and application auto-start.
2. We have made corresponding updates to other parts of this Policy to reflect changes in functionality and user interactions, such as updating the user guide for exercising rights in Section 5 "Your Rights".
Introduction
Weixin is a social networking product provided by Shenzhen Tencent Computer Systems Company Limited (registered address: 35/F., Tencent Building, Kejizhongyi Avenue, Maling Community, Yuehai Street, Nanshan District, Shenzhen; hereafter referred to as "we", "us" or "Tencent") (For the purposes of this Policy, "Weixin" refers specifically to the domestic version of the product, which is distinct from its overseas version "WeChat". Weixin and WeChat Users are distinguished by their mobile numbers: users who register with a Mainland China mobile number are Weixin users, while all others are WeChat users. All provisions concerning personal information processing and protection in this Policy exclusively apply to Weixin). Weixin Privacy Protection Guidelines Summary and this Policy are designed to inform you of how we collect, use, and store your personal information, as well as your rights in relation to it. Here are the main points:
i. We will describe, on a case-by-case basis, the types of personal information we collect from you and their corresponding purposes, so that you can be aware of the categories of personal information we collect for a particular feature, the reasons for its use, and methods of its collection.
ii. When you use certain features, we will collect your sensitive personal information after obtaining your consent. For example, when you use "Find Mobile Contacts", we will collect your mobile contacts' information. Unless the provision of such information is required by applicable laws and regulations, refusing to provide such information will only result in your inability to use the related features, but will not affect your ability to use other features of Weixin.
iii. We will not proactively share or transfer your personal information to a third party outside Tencent. If there are any other circumstances involving the sharing or transfer of your personal information, or if you require us to share or transfer your personal information to a third party outside Tencent, we will directly seek your explicit consent or verify that the third party has obtained your explicit consent for the aforementioned actions, unless such sharing or transfer is required by laws and regulations, or is necessary to protect the rights and interests of users or the security of the Weixin ecosystem. In addition, we will assess the risks of sharing or transferring such information to a third party.
iv. We will not proactively request your personal information from a third party outside Tencent. If it is necessary for us to obtain your personal information from a third party for business purposes, we will verify the legitimacy of the source in accordance with the law, or explicitly inform you of the source, type, and scope of use of your personal information prior to its acquisition. If we need to use your personal information collected from a third party beyond the scope of your original authorization to the third party, we will seek your explicit consent before processing such information. In addition, we will strictly comply with the applicable laws and regulations, and require the third party to ensure the legality of the information they provide.
v. You can access, modify, copy, and delete your personal information, or withdraw your consent, delete your account, file a complaint or report, and manage your privacy settings, including Personalized Ads, through the channels or methods listed herein.
vi. In order to collect your information under this Policy, provide you with services, optimize our services, and protect the security of your account, we will need to request relevant permissions from you. Sensitive permissions such as contacts, location, camera, microphone, and photo album will not be enabled by default. We will only access or use them within the scope of your explicit consent. For the permissions you have already granted us, you can also go to "Me" > "Settings" > "My Information & Authorizations" > "System Permissions" to view the types of system permissions we have accessed or used, the purposes for which we use them, and manage these permissions in a unified manner.
It is important to note that obtaining a sensitive permission does not necessarily mean that we will collect your relevant information. Even if we have obtained sensitive permissions, we will only collect your information within the necessary scope and in accordance with this Policy during your use of the relevant services or features.
For more information, please refer to the following sections:
1. Information We Collect and Use
1. Information We Collect and Use
During your use of Weixin services, we will collect and use the personal information that you actively provide when using the services, or that is generated as a result of using the services, as described below:
1.1 When you register for a Weixin account, we will collect and use your alias, profile photo, and mobile number. The purpose of collecting this information is to complete your registration process, enable you to use Weixin features such as social networking, and protect the security of your account. The purpose of collecting and using your mobile number is to comply with the applicable laws and regulations regarding the real-name authentication . If you do not provide such information, you may be unable to use our services normally. Optionally, you may choose to provide your gender, region, QQ ID, email address and other information based on your needs. You may also choose to provide us with your voice biometrics information to use the Voiceprint feature. This information is considered sensitive personal information; refusing to provide it will only make the Voiceprint feature unavailable to you, but will not affect your ability to use other features of Weixin.
1.2 During your use of Weixin services, in order to ensure that you can use our services normally, maintain the normal operation of the services, improve and optimize user experience, and protect the security of your account, we will collect and use your information such as your device model, operating system, device identifier (e.g., AndroidID/OAID for Android devices, IDFA for iOS devices prior to iOS 14.5), login IP address, Weixin version number, network connection method, type, and status (e.g., SSID and BSSID), network quality data, device accelerators (such as gravity sensors), operation logs, and service logs (such as your search and viewing history in Weixin, service failure information, and referral URLs). Additionally, to prevent viruses, Trojan programs, or other malicious software and websites, we may collect information about the applications installed or uninstalled on your device, currently running processes, or data stored in your device's memory, in order to prevent the leakage of your personal information.
To ensure the operational integrity of the Weixin platform and the security of user accounts, during the registration or use of your Weixin account, if security risks are detected (including but not limited to risks associated with your account registration or linked mobile number), we may collect your ID card number for real-name authentication in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
When security risks are detected in your Weixin account, or when you perform account-sensitive operations (e.g., password recovery, logins from new devices, or account unfreezing/unblocking requests), we may require you to provide your name, ID card number, and perform face recognition verification to confirm that the account is being accessed or operated by you personally.

You can set the visibility range of your Moments content at "Settings" > "Friends' Permissions" > "Moments".
1.4 When you use Official Accounts or Service Accounts, in order to better provide you with services (including those related to system and information security, and false information identification, etc.) and to offer you more convenient, high-quality, and personalized services and content, we will collect and use your records of following/unfollowing and interactions with Official Accounts, Service Accounts, and Channels, as well as your operation logs of reading, highlighting, viewing, adding to Favorites, liking, recommending, sharing, and management of floating windows (adding/removing/closing floating windows) related to the content of Official Accounts, Service Accounts, and Channels, and your search history. We will automatically analyze such information using computer programs to predict your preferences, thereby providing content that may better align with your interests. You can manage the personalized recommendation service by tapping the profile icon in the upper right corner of the "Official Account/Service Account Messages" page, navigating to "Settings", and toggling the "Personalized Recommendations for Official Account/Service Account Content" option.

Refusing to provide such information may only result in your inability to use the aforementioned features or to achieve the intended results based on your location information, but will not affect your ability to use other features of Weixin. Additionally, in order to present you with more precisely-matched search service content, we will collect and use your search history (including search keywords and search results access history), your Mini Program access history, and the operation logs of following and accessing Official Accounts, Service Accounts, and Channels, as well as reading, highlighting, playing, adding to Favorites, sharing, and liking their related content. We will automatically analyze such information using computer programs to predict your preferences, thereby providing services that may better align with your interests. In order to recommend local content or local live streams to you, we will collect your location information upon your voluntary consent. When you use Channels, your refusal to authorize the collection of your location or withdrawal of your authorization may result in your inability to use location-based features, but will not affect your ability to use other features of Weixin.
You can recommend videos and comments to your Weixin contacts (e.g. by using "heart likes" or similar methods). If you cancel a heart like, the content will no longer be recommended to your Weixin contacts. You can also unfollow Channels and remove videos from Favorites (Starred). When you reserve a live stream, we will collect your booking records to remind you to watch live streams on time. You can cancel the booking.
1.16 When you comment on, send private messages to, like or follow a Channels user, or watch or reward to a Channels user's live stream, your Weixin contact card will be displayed to that Channels user, and your profile photo, alias, and comments will be shown to other users. You can choose to watch live streams or exchange messages with others using your Weixin identity, Channels identity, or a new identity. If you do not authorize the access or withdraw the authorization, you will not be able to use the features, but this will not affect your use of other features of Weixin. You can change your Channels alias, profile photo, gender, bio, cover, blocked list, and other information, set the visibility range of your Channels, or delete your posts. On the "Settings" page of Channels, you can enable or disable showing your Channels content in your Weixin contact card.
1.18 When you post videos, stream live content, or link to an Official Account, you need to go through Real-name Authentication as required by laws and regulations and for identify verification. Real-name Authentication service is provided by Tenpay. Refusing to complete Real-name Authentication may result in your inability to use relevant services, but will not affect your ability to use other features of Weixin. Moreover, to ensure the security of your Channels account, when we detect risks in your account status, usage environment, login devices, or login/usage patterns, or identify potential security threats or suspected unauthorized access, we may ask you to provide your real name and ID number and to go through "Face Recognition" to verify that the operation is performed by you. We will only obtain the results of the verification and will not retain the relevant information unless we have obtained your consent as required by laws and regulations. You have the right to refuse to provide the aforementioned information since it contains sensitive personal information. Your refusal to provide such information may result in your inability to use the relevant services, but will not affect your ability to use other features of Weixin. If your posted videos or live streams are marked with location information, they will be recommended to the users near the location and in the same city who have authorized the access to their locations. You can remove tagged location information by tapping "…" in the upper right corner of the video page > "Edit" > Location section. In such scenarios, we will inform you of the relevant rules and obtain your consent. When you perform game streaming or mini game streaming using your Channels, we will process your information according to the Weixin Channels Game Streaming Notice.
1.20 You can go to "Privacy" on your Channels homepage, choose "View and Export My Information" to check your account information, authentication information and other information, and export the information as instructed.

You can refuse authorization to prevent your region from being displayed) and other information you have voluntarily entered/set for this feature.
Once successfully set, the aforementioned profile card information will only be used for the Weixin Games profile card feature, allowing you to better interact with other users (who can follow you through the profile card, or interact with you via "Greeting") and to receive personalized game gifts (such as birthday gifts). Such information will not be used in other scenarios, nor will it be used to determine Weixin account ownership or for identity verification. You can choose not to set your Weixin Games profile card; this will not affect your use of other features in Tencent Games, Mini Games, and Weixin Games.
1.23 When you use "Status", we will collect information such as the content you post, the status icon you select, and your location, and display it to others. This is necessary for the feature's operation.
